Venue

The X International Symposium SRUK/CERU Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday 7th July at the Royal Institution of Great Britain (Mayfair), in the iconic Theatre that has been the home to world-changing discoveries since 1802. The symposium will then move to the University of Westminster, Cavendish Campus, (Fitzrovia) on Saturday and Sunday, 8th and 9th July.

Both institutions are a powerful example of our Symposium’s motto Forging Connections. Did you know that the University of Westminster organised the first public screening of a moving picture in the UK – with the Lumière brothers attending -, the marathon and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games in 1908? And did you know that the telephone, the phonograph and the first techniques of photography were all demonstrated at the Theatre in the Royal Institution? What’s more, Charles Darwin, Lord Tennyson and many other legends across generations once sat in the audience.

The Cavendish Campus and the Royal Institution are well served by train and tube stations, and many hotels and B&B. The classrooms are fully accessible. A childcare service and a violet point to ensure a supporting and safe environment will be available on Saturday and Sunday. Please note that childcare will not be available on Friday. Lunch and refreshments will also be served during the weekend, but not on Friday.

There will be other opportunities to socialise during the symposium, such as an informal gathering after the Opening Ceremony or the coffee breaks during the Symposium.
