1 – What is the Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK/CERU)?

The Society of Spanish Researchers in the United Kingdom (SRUK/CERU) is an independent and non-profit organisation without any political affiliation. The Society was created to promote communication within the community of Spanish Researchers working in the United Kingdom by creating a social network that facilitates the sharing of professional and life experiences.. This association also aims to help close the gap between researchers and the general public from British and Spanish societies. Last, we serve as scientific advisors and facilitate the collaborations between both private and public British and Spanish R&D institutions. 2 – How do I become an SRUK/CERU member?

There are different SRUK/CERU memberships depending on how you would like to be affiliated with the Society. The SRUK/CERU website has all the information you need about the SRUK/CERU memberships we offer. 

3 – How can I register for the symposium?

Registration is now open until the 31st May. This year we are working on a tighter timeframe because our venues require more time to schedule the catering and security arrangements. 4 – How much does it cost to participate?

This year we have flat rates for all attendees. Children up to 11 go free!

  • Three-day ticket (Friday, Saturday and Sunday): £35.
  • Opening Ceremony at the Royal Institution: £15.
  • One-day ticket (Saturday or Sunday): £17.5.

*Full refund is available until June 1st (inclusive). We will not offer refunds past this date.
*Children under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult during the events.

On Saturday evening, there will be a Symposium dinner at Pizza Express. You will need to book your space at the table during the online registration process. The adults’ menu is £26 for 3 courses plus a non-alcoholic drink. The children’s menu, is £8 for 3 courses and a bambinoccino.

5 – What is included in the registration?

Depending on the ticket that you choose to buy, you will be able to attend the Opening Ceremony on Friday 7th July 2023, one of the two days of the Symposium and the workshops taking place that day (8th or 9th July 2023), or the whole three days during which the Symposium will take place and the corresponding workshops (7th, 8th and 9th July 2023).

Saturday and Sunday lunches, coffee breaks, and professional childcare are included in the one-day and three-day tickets. Please note that there will be no drinks or nibbles at the Opening Ceremony and that the Royal Institution does not have a café

The Symposium dinner (Saturday 8th July 2023) is not included in the registration fees, and you will need to purchase a separate ticket during the registration process.

6 – Are there travel grants for registered attendees to the X SRUK/CERU International Symposium?

Yes, a number of microgrants (first come, first served) are available to cover part of the travel expenses of SRUK/CERU members presenting their work at the Symposium. Please check the microgrants page for more information, terms and conditions. 

7 – Where is the Symposium being held?

The Symposium will be held at the University of Westminster (Cavendish Campus, 115 New Cavendish St, London W1B 2HW).

The Opening Ceremony on Friday the 7th July will be held at The Royal Institution of Great Britain (21 Albemarle Street, London, W1S 4BS).

8 – Is there a recommended hotel nearby the Symposium?

Yes, there are some hotels and halls of residence located nearby. For more information visit our Accommodation section.

9 – Do I need to book my hotel room and make my own travel arrangements?

Yes, you will need to arrange travel and accommodation on your own.

10 – Are the venues accessible?

All our venues are fully accessible. However, you will be asked during the registration if we need to make any extra amendments to guarantee your attendance and participation during our Symposium.

11 – Can I bring my kids and my partner along? 

Yes, professional childcare will be offered on Saturday and Sunday. The Symposium welcomes any person interested in our sessions regardless they are an SRUK/CERU member or not; everyone can register to attend!

Please note that entrance for children up to 11 is free and that children under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult during the events.

12 – What happens once I have submitted my abstract?

When abstracts are submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the participant. Once the Organising Committee has chosen the abstracts for oral and poster presentations, we will contact the applicants to let them know about the final outcome.

13 – When and where will the abstract resolution be announced?

We hope to announce the selected abstracts no later than 20 days after the submission deadline (30th April 2023).

14 – Certificate of attendance

We will be sending online certificates of attendance immediately after the celebration of the Symposium. Please email us to request yours.
